ADA Accommodation Requests

To request an ADA accommodation, please contact Jeremy Wilson, Assistant Court Administrator, by email at RJC_Requests_ADA@washoecounty.gov or by phone at 775-325-6508. Requests may be made in person, by phone, or in writing.

The Reno Justice Court Administration Team will work to address requests for accommodation services to assist individuals with disabilities.
Reno Justice Court is committed to ensuring that all qualified individuals with disabilities have equal access to the court system. Reasonable accommodations for court proceedings, judicial services, programs, and activities will be provided to those who qualify.
“Qualified individuals with disabilities” are persons covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) under 42 U.S.C. § 12101 et seq. More information is available at www.ada.gov.

Administrative Accommodations vs. Judicial Accommodations
Not all accommodation requests can be approved by Court Administration. Court Administration can assist with administrative accommodations. Examples of administrative accommodations include providing assistive listening devices, providing certified interpreters, assisting with the completion of required court forms, or relocating a proceeding to a more accessible courtroom.
Court Administration cannot grant accommodations that change court rules, deadlines, or the outcome of a case. Those requests must be decided by the judge.
Judicial accommodations are requests that may impact the rights of another party or parties (for example, filing extensions) or involve control of the courtroom (for example, requests for frequent breaks, permission to remain seated or standing during a proceeding, or permission to have a service animal present).
To make a request for a judicial accommodation, please complete and file a General Motion form with the Court. Your motion may simply be titled “ADA Request.”
To request to appear remotely, please complete and file the Request to Appear by Video Conference form with the Court.
Time Frame for Requests
All requests for accommodations should be made as far in advance as possible.
If either party needs to request a disability accommodation on their own behalf or on behalf of a witness, they should contact the Court as soon as possible and at least two judicial days prior to the scheduled proceeding to allow time to arrange the appropriate accommodation or courtroom assignment.
Administrative accommodation requests may be made at any time.
Judicial accommodation requests should be filed no later than two judicial days prior to the scheduled proceeding to allow the judge sufficient time to review and rule on the request.
The Court will make every reasonable effort to accommodate requests made with less notice.
To submit a grievance regarding an ADA accommodation request, please contact the individual listed on this page.
